Embakasi East Member of Parliament Paul Ongili better known as Babu Owino has been hospitalised.

In a post on his official Facebook account on Sunday morning, the vocal lawmaker shared a photo of himself lying in a radiology unit in an unidentified hospital.

“May God heal me because I must lead this nation someday, ” he captioned the photo.

Reports indicate that Babu has been ailing for the past one week. Details of his illness, however, remain unknown.

The lawmaker has been conspicuously absent in recent rallies organised by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in Kibra ahead of the November 7 by-election.

He missed the Sunday rallies at the Woodley Grounds in Kibra where several governors including Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga), Kivuta Kibwana (Makueni) Charity Ngilu (Kitui) and Alfred Mutua (Machakos) drummed up support for Imran Okoth alongside party leader Raila Odinga.

Waiguru, who a few years ago couldn’t see eye to eye with Odinga over his stance on her alleged involvement in the National Youth Service (NYS) scandal, joins other leaders allied to Jubilee party who have declared their support for Imran including nominated Member of Parliament Maina Kamanda.

She defended her decision saying the handshake between Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta had brought peace and tranquillity in the country hence her support for Imran.

Waiguru, a former ally of Deputy President William Ruto, was for a long term seen as a potential running mate of Ruto in the 2022 presidential election.

Recently, Babu warned Wafula Chebukati, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman, of dire consequences if Imran is rigged out.

Other candidates in the race are Jubilee’s McDonald Mariga, Amani National Congress’ Eliud Owala, Ford Kenya’s Eng. Khamisi Butichi and several independent candidates eyeing the seat.

The seat fell vacant following the demise Imran’s brother, Ken Okoth, who succumbed to colorectal cancer in July.
