Suspended Kenya Power Managing Director Ken Tarus had his wife bundled into a police car as officers searched for him, his lawyer has told the court.

According to the lawyer, Ms Tarus’ only crime is being the wife of Kenya Power MD.

Apparently, the former MD’s co-accused, Beatrice Meso the company’s legal secretary, was also manhandled by a team of police officers.

During the bail hearing, the court heard that there was no single female police officer when Ms Meso or wife of Kenya Power MD present when they were being manhandled.

Ms Meso had 15 police cars deployed to her Muthaiga North home at around 1 AM on Friday.

“It’s not just one vehicle or one policeman or two or three but a contingent of 15 cars to arrest a lady of substance at 1 am. That is not good for this country. It should catch the eye of the court that guidelines are given cause they are Kenyans of good will who will cooperate,” lawyer Tom Ojienda stated.

The prosecutor Jacinta Nyamosi has asked the court to deny the more than 10 Kenya Power officials bail because they are a flight risk, interference of witnesses, on going investigations.

“Your honour we are unable to find them at the places where they can be found. Their phones are off and that is why we believe they have gone into hiding,” the prosecution said.

The state counsel has also asked the court to issue warrant of arrest for two accused persons who did not appear in court.

Dr Tarus and Ms Meso are some of the power utility firm’s officials who the DPP Noordin Haji has ordered that they face more than six charges of economic crimes, abuse of office and conspiracy to defeat justice in purchase of substandard transformers worth over Sh409m.
