A 19-year-old died after being trapped by a borehole that collapsed in Kathonzweni, Makueni County.

Police said Janet Ndulu was among four people who were on Saturday fetching water from a community borehole in the area when the concrete foundation collapsed.

The foundation collapsed into the water with the four who were trapped therein.

The four were rushed to the hospital where Ndulu was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

The injured were admitted in a stable condition.

The area is experiencing a drought and water shortage that forces locals to seek water from the community borehole.

Elsewhere in Ahero, Kisumu County, police are investigating murder after the decomposed body of a man was found in a culvert.

Police said the man may have been killed and stuffed into the culvert at an unknown time and day.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy.

Police said they are investigating murder in the case.

The motive of the murder was not known, police said adding they had launched an investigation. The police appealed to the locals to report to the local authorities if there is any of their own who is missing.
