A tragic incident left one woman dead and another fighting for her life after they were attacked by a swarm of bees in Luanda Sub-county, Vihiga County.

Police said the incident occurred on the night of April 18, 2026, at Emusali Village in Mwitui Sub-location, Mukharakhara Location.

The victim was identified as Rebeka Ochieli, 50. The two women were reportedly within their homestead when they were attacked by a swarm of bees that had camped in their compound.

Residents rushed the pair to Great Lakes Medical Center in Mwibona Village for treatment. However, Ochieli succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment at the facility.

Her body has since been moved to Masaba Mission Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination.

Meanwhile, the other woman remains admitted at the same medical facility in critical condition, with police officers from Luanda Police Station confirming they have visited her.

Authorities have launched investigations into the incident, which has shocked residents of the quiet rural village.

Elsewhere, police in Mathira East Sub-county, Nyeri County, launched investigations into the brutal killing of an 18-year-old man found dead inside his house under unclear circumstances.

According to the police, the body of Kelvin Kariuki Kaburi was discovered in his single-room wooden house.

Police established that the deceased had been living alone in the house.

Preliminary findings indicate that the victim had spent part of the day with his mother before she left the homestead at around 3:00 p.m. to visit a friend, leaving him alone.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Kaburi’s body bearing multiple injuries to the head, back, and lower parts of the body.

The room showed clear signs of a violent struggle, with blood stains spread across the interior, suggesting a physical confrontation before his death.

The scene was processed and documented by forensic officers before the body was moved to Karatina Sub-county Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination.

Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the motive behind the killing and to identify those responsible for the attack. The incident has shocked residents in the area, with authorities appealing for any information that may assist in the probe.
