A 75-year-old woman was found murdered and her body dumped in a thicket in Kyuso area, Kitui County.

The woman had gone missing on December 28, 2025, before her body was discovered the following day. She was a member of the Kavonokya Faith and had gone for a church service before she failed to return home.

Her body was discovered in a thicket while covered with a piece of cloth, police said.

The woman had a leso wrapped on the neck and face and her underwear was beside the body. She is suspected to have been assaulted before being murdered.

The motive of the incident was not immediately known, police said as they moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Police said they were pursuing suspects in the murder.

Elsewhere in Gaitu, Meru County, a body of a woman was found at the base of a quarry after a suspected sudden fall.

The incident happened in the Kaguma area. The victim was identified as Agnes Mwendwa, 25 and is suspected to have fallen accidentally. She was last seen in the area on December 24 while appearing drunk, her relatives said.

The body was discovered two days later with visible injuries in the face. The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other procedures.

And a suspect was lynched by a mob in a failed robbery in Kolenyo, Seme, Kisumu County. The suspect was accused of attempting to steal when an alarm was raised. He was stoned to death in the December 29 incident.

Police discourage mob lynching and term it criminal.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations.

In Kiamachimbi, Nyeri County, one Francis Mutahi died after consuming alcohol at a local bar. Police said they are investigating the incident and the body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
