Minority leader in the National Assembly, John Mbadi declined to submit a list of members to sit in the Committee of Appointments as they (NASA) do not recognize Uhuru Kenyatta as President.

Mbadi, Suba MP, told the House Clerk, Michael Sialai that Kenyatta was in office ‘illegitimately’ and as such there was no need to constitute the House committee, chaired by Speaker Justin Muturi, to vet cabinet secretaries.

“I decline to make proposals for the appointment to the Committee until when the office of the appointing authority, the Presidency, will be occupied substantively,” said Mbadi.

The move, the opposition reckons will cripple President Kenyatta’s government.

NASA made the declaration on Saturday, during a rally in Machakos, where they vowed to boycott the formation of committees.

”“We do not want to be party to the appointment of CSs because we do not recognize the election of President Uhuru Kenyatta as President. This is the reason why we will not participate in the formation of this committee and the possibility of vetting his CSs,” he said.

Kenyatta is expected to name a 22 member cabinet before December 12. The team will help realize the Jubilee government’s trans-formative agenda and foster Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 succession bid.

As the opposition vows not to recognize Uhuru as the head of state, their leader Raila Odinga vowed to be sworn in on December 12, by the people’s assembly that is now being led by economist, David Ndii.

The assembly will debate possible changes to the constitution and finally call for a referendum.
