Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has dismissed the six resolutions announced by Kenya Kwanza and ODM leaders after their high-level parliamentary meeting, terming them a distraction and a waste of time.
In a strongly-worded message posted on his social media pages, Omtatah said the resolutions made in Karen were “hollow” and ignored the real problems facing the country, such as corruption, public debt and misuse of public institutions.
“What we witnessed in Karen is yet another distraction. They issued hollow resolutions about unity and fast-tracking agendas, yet deliberately ignored the elephants in the room: runaway corruption in the Executive and in counties, anti-graft institutions turned into rent-seeking rackets shielding thieves, and a ballooning national debt,” he wrote.
Yesterday, leaders from Kenya Kwanza and ODM held a joint parliamentary group meeting at the KCB Leadership Centre, where they pledged to work together for national unity and development.
They committed to implement a joint 10-point agenda that includes job creation, healthcare, education, food security, youth empowerment, and good governance. They also vowed to fight corruption, work together in Parliament and uphold accountability in leadership.
The resolutions were signed by Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, Senate Minority Leader Stewart Madzayo and National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed.
However, Omtatah said Kenyans are tired of endless meetings and committees that do not address the suffering of ordinary citizens.
“Endless talk shops cannot fix a broken economy or restore public trust. Kenyans are demanding an end to looting, reckless borrowing, and empty politics. Wajinga waliisha Kenya,” said Omtatah.
He added that “unity at the top is meaningless if it only protects thieves,” and said the government should focus on fighting graft, cancelling burdensome debts, lowering the cost of living, and creating jobs.
“The Constitution already gave us the framework. Just follow it, fight graft, cancel odious debts, and serve the people. Anything less is outright betrayal,” he said.
