David Kipsang Keter clinched the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nomination for the Emurua Dikirr parliamentary by-election after a tightly contested race held on March 27.

Keter secured 13,749 votes, narrowly edging out Bernard Kipkoech Ngeno, who garnered 13,394 votes—a slim margin that underscored the intensity of the contest.

The exercise, conducted across multiple polling centres, drew significant voter turnout, with schools temporarily closed to facilitate the process.

Leaders across government praised both candidates and the electorate for a peaceful and orderly nomination.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen congratulated Keter, citing his “patience, persistence, and resilience,” while also commending Ngeno for his strong showing and sportsmanship.

Samson Cherargei, the Nandi Senator, described the process as well-coordinated, transparent, and efficient, while Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya echoed similar sentiments, applauding both candidates and residents for maintaining calm throughout the campaigns and voting.

Murkomen further highlighted the uniqueness of the contest, noting it was marked by creative campaigning through music and poetry, conducted in an atmosphere of peace and civility.

Keter will now fly the UDA flag in the upcoming by-election scheduled for May 14, 2026.

The by-election was triggered by the death of the area MP, Johana Ng’eno, who tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash in Nandi on February 28, 2026.

The aircraft reportedly burst into flames upon impact.
