The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has listed several petrol stations found selling adulterated fuel or fuel meant for export in the local market.

In a statement, EPRA said it carried out 2,713 fuel quality tests at 758 petroleum stations across the country between January and March 2026. Out of these, 753 stations, representing 99.34 per cent, complied with fuel standards. However, five stations, or 0.66 per cent, were found to be non-compliant.

The inspections were conducted in line with the Energy (Retail Facility Construction and Licensing) Regulations, 2013.

Among the affected stations is Asis Energy Filling Station, which was found selling super petrol and diesel with high sulphur content and mixed with kerosene. The station has since reopened after upgrading its fuel and paying taxes and penalties amounting to Sh101,638.

EPRA also flagged a suspected illegal fuel site in Habaswein, where diesel with high sulphur content was found. The fuel was impounded and the case is in court.

In Matuga, another illegal fuel site was found with diesel meant for export. The fuel was also impounded and the matter is before court.

In Kisumu, Green Wells Energies Kisumu CBD Service Station was found selling kerosene meant for export. The station has since resumed operations after paying taxes and penalties amounting to Sh435,100.

Meanwhile, Plateau Filling Station was closed after being found selling diesel adulterated with kerosene.
