Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli has declared that his party, Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM) will rule for years to come.

Speaking during a ground breaking ceremony for a $45 million party training centre in Kibaha funded by the Chinese, the rather controversial head of state noted that those in opposition will always “have problems” because there will never be an alternative to CCM.

“The CCM is here and will continue to be here… forever. Members of the CCM, you can walk with your heads held high. There is no alternative to CCM,” he said.

Last week Magufuli nicknamed the bulldozer, known for his highhandedness said that inmates should be forced to work day and night, and the lazy ‘kicked hard’.

“Some prison staff don’t have homes. Make the prisoners work, let them make bricks day and night. If they show laziness, kick them. You have laborers, and for free. It is a shame for the country to continue to feed prisoners. All the prisons have fields, inmates must cultivate them,” he said at the unveiling ceremony of Tanzania’s new Commissioner General of Prison Services Ms Phaustine Kasike.

Magufuli came to power in 2015, and since his taking over has angered rights groups with campaigns against homosexuality and calls to block pregnant girls from attending school.
