The latest Interbrand’s Best Global Brands 2017 Ranking has seen African companies fail to feature in the top 100.
According to the the latest rankings, American brands top the list with technology firm Apple, Google and Microsoft.
Seven American companies featured in the top 10 with Samsung (South Korea), Toyota (Japan) and Mercedes Benz (Germany) featuring as well.
Other iconic American brands featuring in the top 10 include CocaCola, Amazon, Facebook and IBM.
50 American companies managed to feature in the top 100 while remaining brands came from France, Germany, United Kingdom and Italy.

“The ranking was based on brand value, with the last brand in the ranking being Lenovo, worth Sh4trillion,” noted the survey.
Kenya’s Safaricom which is the leading brand in the country was valued to be Sh1 trillion.
Brands like Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Toyota, Samsung, and CocaCola are extremely popular in Africa despite attempts to create local brands that could compete.
Non-African brands currently make up 84 per cent of the Top 100 most Admired Brands and account for 99.25 per cent of the value of the Top 100 Most Valuable Brands in Africa.
In 2016 Superbrand listed Safaricom’s M-Pesa, Kenya Red Cross Society, and the Daily Nation among the top 10 brands in the country.
According to Superbrands, several top brands in Kenya are in financial crisis.
