Airtel Kenya (formerly Zain) has today given the exploiters in the market a hard point to ponder. The company has lowered its voice charges further to KES1 (Yes One Bob).

This move is going to cause jitters in the market and already the competitors might be feeling it hard. The Tariff is christened Feelanga Free Kilasiku (Feel Free everyday. Airtel Kenya Managing Director Rene Meza said the move had been taken as a conscious business decision in line with the firm’s strategy of offering affordable communications solutions to its customers.

The tariff applies from 6am to 6pm. Airtel got a boost late last year when it was announced that it had the best Quality of Service. To enjoy the new permanent tariff, airtel subscribers’ will only need to dial *111# and pay a daily subscription fee of KES1 to enjoy the lowest call rate in Kenya.

The company caused a stir in the market in August reducing their tariff by 50% and even taunting its competitor, Safaricom by having its marketing team playing bend over infront of Safaricom’s HQ.

Rene Meza in a Capital FM interview this evening was not categorical when Kenyans will get 3G on their phones and data dongles. He skirted the question asked by @archermishale through @thejam984 of Capital FM.
