Hours after Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o issued an apology to opposition Chief Raila Odinga over chaotic reception in his backyard, the governor has shocked Kenyans after he went ahead to have the apology published in the local dailies.

Odinga was on Monday heckled at during his visit to Muhoroni after some residents held protests during his speech. He was in the region to propose special economic zone site in Ombeyi, Muhoroni, a project which the residents are against.

In what many have regarded as a sycophantic move, Nyong’o had the statement published in two main local dailies – Nation and the Standard.

“It is regrettable that a small band of engineered naysayers who have deliberately decided to resist development in the county as a whole purely for political mileage decided our guests. For this, I apologise,” the a quarter a page ad read in part.

“We shall not be deterred from continuing with changing Kisumu’s economy for the better to please a few visionless people,” the Kisumu boss stated.

The advertisement has elicited mixed reactions online, with a section of netizens questioning the source of funds spearheading the ‘not so wise’ campaign.

According to reports, the governor has failed to implement crucial projects in the county and instead chosen the publicity stunt road.

For instance, several Early Childhood Development (ECD) schools, under his administration, lack basic learning facilities.

On the spot is Pawteng Primary School in Awasi, notably in a sorry state. The governor has done little to better the seemingly blurred future of the innocent kids who attend the school.

Still under his watch, over 250 doctors threatened to down their tools in March after Nyong’o failed to implement their Collective Bargaining Agreement signed in 2017.

It's unfortunate that Kisumu County can do a press release claiming that the Ombeyi incident was planned, instead of acknowledging that they did not involve residents in discussions involving the said Park. Shame! pic.twitter.com/pNobWyCpoH
