Kenya has recorded 335 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the country’s caseload to 97,733, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has announced. The new infections were from a 5,424 sample size. The cumulative tests stand at 1,05,673. In terms of gender, 233 are males while 102 are females and the youngest is a one-year-old child and the oldest is 94. From the new cases, 307 are Kenyans while 28 are foreigners. Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has moved to court to oppose the vetting of Anne Kananu as deputy governor. In his absence, Kananu will be sworn in as the governor. On Tuesday, a Nairobi resident, Peter Agoro, withdrew a case blocking Kananu’s appointment as DG. In the petition, Mr Agoro argued that Ms Kananu’s appointment contravened orders issued by the Anti-corruption court against the county boss, who was charged with graft in December 2019. Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the IEBC have been blocked from commenting on former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu’s case. Through his lawyer, John Swaka, Waititu said the two commissions continued to comment on whether he can vie for the Nairobi governor seat even though the case is yet to be determined. Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Wednesday confirmed 271 new cases of Covid-19 from a 5,830 sample size in the past 24 hours. Kenyans are irked by an article penned by CNN in which a British woman supposedly discovered whales in the coastal town of Watamu. Former Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu has moved to court over a decision by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to bar him from running for Nairobi governor post. Senate majority whip and Murang’a senator Irungu Kang’ata has apologized over a letter to President Uhuru Kenyatta indicating that the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) was unpopular in Central Kenya. Kenya on Monday recorded 106 new cases of coronavirus, raising the total of confirmed cases in the country to 96,908. The new cases were from 3,315 samples collected in the last 24 hours, pushing the number of cumulative tests to 1,059,006.
