Former Sports CS Rashid Echesa has been released on a Sh1 million cash bail or a Sh1 million bond in an assault case. Keroche Breweries CEO Tabitha Karanja on Tuesday took the stand in the inquest of her daughter, Tecra Muigai’s death at Milimani Law Courts. An emotional Karanja told Magistrate Zainabu Abdul that her deceased daughter’s boyfriend, Omar Lali, preyed on her financially. A US court has okayed the exhumation of the body of a Kenyan woman who died and was buried “hastily” by her partner. Dorothy Bosibori Ongera is said to have died on December 17 at her Dallas, Texas home. It is said that she accidentally drowned in the water tub. The mother of six was buried by her partner, Obadiah Kinara at the Emerald Hills Memorial Park without the family’s permission. The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has summoned 10 lawmakers over chaos witnessed during Thursday’s by-elections. Former Sports CS Rashid Echesa has been transferred to DCI headquarters in Nairobi, Western region police boss Peris Kimani has said. Echesa who is facing assault charges was apprehended on Friday evening in Mumias. He was later transferred to Kakamega police station under heavy security. A Nairobi court has ordered that former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko undergoes a psychiatrist to affirm whether he is fit to stand trial. This was after a doctor at Aga Khan Hospital submitted a report showing that the former county chief was mentally unfit to stand trial. Magistrate Peter Ooko did, however, note that while two medical reports show that the besieged ex-governor has bipolar disorder, they do not properly capture the mentally unfit issue.
