President Uhuru Kenyatta today addressed the nation following the recent spike of Covid-19 cases in the country. He said that the positive cases had declined to only four percent in September but upon the relaxation of the previous restrictions, the cases surged to 16 percent. Former Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Managing Director Daniel Manduku has been charged afresh for allegedly misappropriating over Ksh928 million. Manduku was charged alongside former  Works officer Juma Fadhili, who was accused of abusing his office for knowingly and unlawfully preparing work evaluation certificates that were erroneous. The two, according to court papers,  misappropriated Ksh678 million meant for repair and maintenance in the KPA annual budget for 2018-2019 financial year. Kenya is planning a 100 percent shift to e-visa by 2021, Deputy Director of Immigration Services, Alicent Odipo, said. This will help ease the process of entering the country even as the Covid-19 pandemic rages on. Kenya has signed a post-Brexit bilateral trade agreement with the United Kingdom. Cabinet Secretaries Fred Matiangi and Betty Maina led Kenya and the UK in signing the post-Brexit bilateral trade agreement after successful negotiations authorized by President Kenyatta UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson in January. Safaricom has named Dilip Pal as its new Chief Finance Officer (CFO) effective from November 1. He will also serve in the Safaricom PLC Board as an alternative director to Chief Executive Officer Peter Ndegwa. Dilip joins Safaricom from DTAC, the third largest mobile phone services provider in Thailand where he served as CFO since 2017. The decision by Sportpesa to resume operations in Kenya could have opened a pandora’s box revealing the rot beneath billions collected from gamblers in the East African region. The Senate has proposed a new bill that will see parking fees in all public and private hospitals scrapped, if it becomes law. The bill moved by Wajir Senator Abdullahi Ali will see hospitals stop charging entry and parking fees on individuals seeking treatment. “Charging entry fees amounts to double taxation as the motorists who would have paid the parking fees will still pay for the services they seek. The board of the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) has appointed Macdonald Obudho as its new Director General. Obudho replaces Zachary Mwangi who has been at the helm since 2012, and his term expired on Friday, October 30. He has previously worked as Director for Population and Social Statistics for KNBS. Obudho holds a  Master of Science degree in Statistics from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). Huawei are rolling out their search engine app, Petal Search, latest in South Africa. The service is now available in 170 countries in 50 languages.
