The shareholders of the Co-operative Bank Group have has ratified a dividend of Ksh1 per share, being the same level of dividend payout as for the previous year 2018. This was announced during the 12th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held virtually on Thursday last week, October 22, 2020. According to new revelations, the retailer owes Ksh2.8 billion to Equity Bank and Diamond Trust Bank (DTB), a debt that will play a big role in regaining stability. Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KENGEN) has embarked on a plan to set up a commercial data centre that will house servers, network and storage for international firms. Nairobi Hospital lost at least Ksh2.2 billion within one year due to mismanagement, a new audit report by Grant Thornton has revealed. The hospital could not explain a variance of Ksh2.2 billion between its two internal billing systems – Kranium and Navision – in billing and receipts. “As at December 31, 2019, the total inpatient and outpatient revenue recorded on Kranium for the Financial Year 2019-20 amounted to Ksh12.8 billion. The number of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in the country rose to 49,721 on Sunday after 931 more people tested positive from 6,691 samples tested in the last 24 hours. Cumulative tests conducted so far stand at 659,920. Tanzania Citizens have noticed that they are unable to send SMSs bearing the name “Tundu Lissu” through the main mobile phone providers, Vodacom and Airtel. On the same breath, the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) has issued a directive temporarily suspending bulk messaging and bulk voice calling services. In the directive, the TCRA said that bulk SMSs might have a negative impact on the forthcoming general elections and had therefore suspended the services between October 24th and November 11th 2020. The Kenya space agency has launched a strategic plan to guide the country’s space programmes between 2020 and 2025. The agency is one of about five space institutions in Africa. It is tasked with coordinating, regulating and promoting Kenya’s development of the space sector.
