Instagram has started sending out notifications to users, alerting them of plans to retire the swipe up feature to external links by August 30. The company is planning to introduce linking stickers in place of the current swipe up. Users will then be able to tap on the stickers to navigate to external links. Normally, only users who have 10,000 followers or more are able to post swipe-up links to their stories. The government has increased regulatory charges on water companies ten times over increasing operation and maintenance costs. This will see the charges on water bills shoot for the consumers, from 50 cents per cubic metre to Ksh5 for domestic use and livestock farming. “A person in possession of a valid water use permit or who is required to have a valid permit for water use shall pay in addition to the water use charge… a levy amounting to five percent of the monthly water use charge as a water conservation levy,” said Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki.…

In the last 24 hours, 619 people have tested positive for Covid-19 from a sample size of 4, 647. This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 229,628 and the cumulative tests so far conducted to 2,316,674. The Positivity rate now is 13.3 percent. On a positive note, 1,437 have recovered from the virus ,1,318 have been released from home-based care while 119 people have been discharged from various health facilities across the country. Ethiopia is developing alternative social media platforms to rival Facebook, Whatsapp and Twitter. According to the country’s state communications security agency, there are however no plans to block the current social media platforms. The director general of the Information Network Security Agency (INSA), Shumete Gizaw, accused Facebook of deleting posts which he said, predict the true reality of the situation in Ethiopia. A company associated with Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho is set to take over an inland cargo terminal in Nairobi amid protests and allegations of corruption. The company, Autoports Freight Terminals Ltd, has secured exclusive rights to use the Nairobi Freight Terminals (NFT) located near the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) terminal in Syokimau. The rights for the terminal, which is owned by taxpayers, have been granted by the Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) which owns the terminal on behalf of taxpayers. Lawyer Paul Gicheru is now demanding that Judge Miatta Maria Samba of the International Criminal Court (ICC) recuses herself from the case. Gicheru says that Samba worked for the International Criminal Court’s Office of The Prosecutor (OTP) between 2006 and 2010 under Luis Moreno Ocampo, and could have been involved in the investigation of some Kenyan cases. Equity Bank CEO James Mwangi has been summoned by MPs over an alleged Ksh15 billion loan that was offered to Deputy President William Ruto’s ally Harun Aydin.
