A huge fire swept through a section of Gikomba Market in Nairobi on Tuesday morning leaving many in pain. No injuries were reported in the April 9 incident, police said adding many lost valuables. Renowned disc jockey DJ Joe Mfalme is off the hook in a murder probe of a police officer.  DJ Joe Mfalme will now be a state witness in the murder case of Kabete Police detective Felix Kelian Kintos. This is after the Director of Public Prosecutions in a letter dated April 5, 2024, advised that the second to the seventh respondents be witnesses in the case. A two and half year old girl was electrocuted in an incident in Kilifi Town. The minor was playing with her friends within their estate when she stepped on a live naked wire on Saturday afternoon. Police who visited the scene said the live wire was illegally tapped from an electricity post and connected to a quarry site by workers at the quarry next to the deceased parents’ home. A Nigerian national was arrested and detained in custody after he refused to be deported to his country from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi. Dolapo James Adepoju has been in custody for almost two weeks pending his deportation for among others cyber crimes and being in the country illegally. There was a somber mood at Egerton University after a student was found dead following a suspected suicide incident. Police said the body of Collins Mutua Kimathi, 23 was found hanging from a tree within the university’s botanic garden. Security officials found the body on Saturday evening, officials said. A police officer was attacked by a panga and injured by a mob, which mistook him for being a spy on a chang’aa den in Siaya town. Police in Kitui shot and killed a pastor in a robbery with violence incident at Kavisuni market in Kisasi district. The pastor was allegedly part of a gang that raided a wholesale shop in the area last week and robbed the owner at gunpoint. At least four passengers died and scores were injured after a Kensilver bus traveling from Meru to Nairobi was involved in an accident at the Tharaka Nithi bridge on Sunday. Tharaka-Nithi County Rescue Services manager Alex Mugambi said the injured were rushed to various hospitals. The bus had 39 passengers on board from Maua in Meru County when it allegedly developed break failure. Doctors have called for peaceful demonstrations on Tuesday as strike enters week four. The medics have been demanding for fair compensation and posting of medical interns among other issues. Two women died and five other miners were been left injured after a gold mine collapsed in Alego-Usonga sub-county, Siaya County. Police said Maureen Anyango, 28, and Beryl Atieno, 40, died on Saturday evening after the mining shaft collapsed and buried them alive. Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo said four other miners were also buried under the debris but were rescued.
