After the success of two previous Kenya-Uganda tourism conferences in Mombasa and Diani, the third conference is scheduled for Kampala, Uganda in November 2024. The first Uganda-Kenya Coast Tourism Conference was held on November 17, 2022, at Pride Inn Hotel in Mombasa, followed by a second conference on November 13-14, 2023, in Diani, Kwale County. Kenyans suffering from cancer would soon be receiving affordable medical treatment under the critical illness fund. The fund would be part of the social security scheme and the Universal Health Coverage,President William Ruto said Tuesday.. The Deputy Inspector General of Kenya Police Eliud Lagat Monday August 12 moved 17 senior officers as he named a new deputy commandant of General Service Unit (GSU).  Among those moved in the changes dated August 12 include Rift Valley deputy regional commander Richard Rotich who was moved to GSU and named the deputy commandant. Rotich takes over from Omar Bashane who has retired. The new Lamu County commander will be Edward Kipsang. Five family members were killed on Tuesday August 13 morning when their vehicle collided with a lorry in the Mbaruk area of Gilgil, Nakuru County. The victims included a mother and her four children, police said. Gilgil Sub County Police Commander Jamleck Ngaruiya confirmed the incident, revealing that the victims were driving in Mercedes Benz when it happened. He said the driver was overtaking on the wrong lane and collided with the lorry. The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Monday denied claims of ongoing mining activity in the Tsavo East National Park. This is after images circulated online showing wide canals created on the ground. KWS clarified that the shared images are not from Tsavo East National Park and there is no ongoing mining activity in the area. Detectives are investigating an incident in which a General Service Unit (GSU) police officer was Monday morning killed in Manyatta slums in Kisumu by stabbing. Police said constable Calvince Ouma Omondi, 24 was stabbed in the chest during a scuffle with people known to him. At the time of his death, he was attached to the Turkwel GSU camp in Turkana County. The High Court Monday set aside orders stopping any further roll out of the new digital identity cards popularly known as Maisha Namba. The orders have affected the production of the identity cards in the country with thousands of people still waiting to get the crucial documents. A renowned bhang trafficker was Monday charged with trafficking the narcotics valued at Sh5.6 million.  Nancy Indoveria Kigunzu, popularly known as Mathe Wa Ngara was on Monday charged alongside David Ochieng Okoth and Christopher Odipo Ochieng. They all pleaded not guilty to trafficking 189,300 grams of cannabis with a market value of over Sh5.6 million. The three face a second count of conspiracy to trafficking narcotic drugs.
