The Duchess of Kent has died at the age of 92, Buckingham Palace has announced with “deep sorrow”. The duchess, Katharine, was the oldest member of the Royal Family, married to Prince Edward, the…

The Duchess of Kent, who has died at the age of 92, carried out her royal duties with the minimum of fuss. She was best known to most of the public as the elegant woman who presented the trophies at Wimbledon each year, once famously having to comfort a distraught losing finalist. She became the first member of the Royal Family to convert to Catholicism since the Act of Settlement in 1701 – but that was not, perhaps, her most surprising decision. Recognising that her twin passions were music and children, she quietly withdrew from royal life and took a…
Thailand’s parliament has chosen business tycoon Anutin Charnvirakul as the country’s prime minister – the third in two years, after yet another leader was removed from office. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who belongs to Thailand’s most powerful political dynasty, was removed by the constitutional court last week for ethical violations over her handling of the border dispute with Cambodia. Anutin’s Bhumjaithai party broke from the coalition led by the Shinawatras’ Pheu Thai, and secured enough support in parliament to win the premiership. But the uncertainty may not be over for Thailand which has seen multiple administrations deposed by court interventions and military…
US immigration authorities raided a massive Hyundai manufacturing site in Georgia, leading to the arrest of over 450 people, according to one of the agencies involved in the operation. The 3,000-acre site, which was built by the Korean automobile manufacturer to make electric vehicles, had been operational for a year. The Department of Homeland Security told the BBC’s US partner CBS News that agents executed a search warrant due to allegations of “unlawful employment practices and other serious federal crimes”. Korean nationals were among those detained, the South Korean foreign ministry said, calling it an “unjust infringement” of their rights.…

President Donald Trump’s pick to fill a Federal Reserve vacancy said he did not plan to resign from his White House role, if confirmed, alarming Democrats who said his elevation would bring the president closer to controlling the central bank. Stephen Miran, currently chief of Trump’s Council of Economic Advisers, told lawmakers at his confirmation hearing on Thursday that he intended to take a leave of absence from the White House, given the short term nature of the Fed post. He assured them that he would act independently if confirmed. But he demurred when Democrats demanded he prove his independence…

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., got into a heated debate with Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Or., during a hearing on Thursday. The exchange came as Kennedy was testifying before the Senate Finance Committee. Wyden accused Kennedy of putting children into “harm’s way” with his policies and argued Kennedy has shown no regrets about doing so. “This is about kids being pushed into harm’s way by reckless and repeated decisions to get scientists and doctors out of the way and allow conspiracy theories to dictate this country’s health policy,” Wyden said at the end of his questioning. “I…
The Trump administration announced Thursday that the agency that assesses whether immigrants should be granted green cards and citizenship will add its own law enforcement agents who can carry firearms and make arrests. The move is a major change for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, an agency that has been kept separate from immigration arrests and enforcing deportations. USCIS assesses applications and interviews immigrants seeking to legally remain in the country by getting green cards, becoming naturalized citizens or being approved for humanitarian programs. USCIS said in a statement Thursday that under the new rule, it will be authorized to…
Northwestern University President Michael Schill announced his resignation Thursday as the university faces an ongoing funding freeze by the Trump administration. “As I reflect on the progress we have made and what lies ahead, I believe now is the right time for new leadership to guide Northwestern into its next chapter,” Schill said in a message to the campus community. “Therefore, I have decided, in consultation with the leadership of the Board of Trustees, that I will step down as President.” An interim president has yet to be named and Schill will continue in his role until then, the university…
Most of us have tried to run projects with sticky notes, sprawling email chains, or that one spreadsheet nobody wants to open. Then a deadline arrives, and someone says, “Wait—who owned that task?” That’s the moment you can feel the need for a proper system. Task management software gives you one place to plan, track, and close the loop without guesswork. Nakase Law Firm Inc. notes that even a simple performance review template runs smoother once it lives inside the same task hub, which says a lot about the value of a well-organized setup. And here’s the thing—modern tools don’t…
US President Donald Trump has downplayed suggestions he wants to win the Nobel Peace Prize, after weeks of speculation. “I have nothing to say about it,” Trump told CBS News. “All I can do is put out wars.” The president added: “I don’t seek attention. I just want to save lives.” The comments appear to be at odds with previous statements on the matter, when he has said he should be given the prestigious accolade for his part in ending several conflicts. In the same telephone interview, Trump told the outlet that he was committed to helping to secure a…
Indian doctors successfully removed “parasitic twins” or two foetuses that were growing inside the abdomen of a 20-day-old baby. Called foetus in foetu, the condition is extremely rare, with fewer than 200 cases being reported worldwide until now, a handful of them from India. The condition develops early in pregnancy where a malformed foetus is absorbed by the host twin. Though the foetus isn’t alive, it continues to develop by absorbing nutrients from the host twin – hence the name “parasitic twin”. In this case, the woman was pregnant with triplets and two of the foetuses began to grow inside…

New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani called reporting Wednesday that the White House is considering administration jobs for Mayor Eric Adams and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa an “affront to our democracy.” The New York Times reported Wednesday that advisers to President Donald Trump have discussed giving incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, who is running as an independent, a position in the administration to clear the field and set up a head-to-head race between Mamdani and former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who lost the Democratic primary to Mamdani and is now running as an independent. The talks have also involved…
