Bad political leadership pushing me to the ballot, Maraga says

Former Chief Justice David Maraga vowed he would go all the way to the ballot as presidential contender, brushing off calls to stand down for any other candidate.

He further rejected the accusations that he was a state project adding that deep concern for the deteriorating status of affairs in the country pushed him to seek presidency.

In an exclusive interview Monday night at his Karen residence, Maraga spoke of being “appalled by the ongoings-on in the country” adding that he is on course to give politics a human face.

He said this enough has nudged him to chase the dream of reclaiming the country.

“I was actually sitting in my house when the shooting of Gen Z protesters began. There is also an unsettling plunder of resources by the political class,” Maraga stated.

He has insisted he was the right person to undertake necessary reforms that will re-engineer the politics of this country.

“What the country needs at the moment is a leader It doesn’t matter whether you’re starting as MCA, Kenya just needs a leader with stronger character, one who can insulate himself gains the temptations of a glutton,” the former Chief Justice stated.

Speaking of heckling bands he has to contend with especially at burials in his homeland, he said that will not cow him.

He further said he will not stop his aspiration midway.

“You can abuse me, belittle me but that won’t affect me in any way. I just won’t be cowed by Intimidatory tactics,” he said.

He said hostile mobs won’t derail him from going around the country to engage the electorate on the need for sound political leadership.

“I am not going to heckle anybody and won’t carry goons to heckle anybody . Just because some are doing so is not the reason that I do the same,” he said.

Maraga denied the charge that he was a statehouse project.

“That ust sheer dirty and mudslinging which detractors use to silence people’s aspirations.Whoever is doing it id free to do so but I won’t raise my voice against them…it is pure nonsense and I won’t feel dissuaded to abandon ship because of such,” he said.

Speaking of funding challenges, Maraga insisted he would run a voter bribery free campaign.

“I would not bribe voters… In fact I would be dependent on the magnanimity of my supporters to campaign,” he said.

He said his bid was about injecting sense into the country’s political leadership.

“I will be a servant leader and bring dynamic change in the country. I am persuaded that my supporters will back me with a few coins,” he said.

He said he has fought back the temptation of going abroad begging for campaign cash.

“If I go it may not been soon,” he stated.

Kenya, he said, was going through difficult phases because of tribal politics.

“What is killing Kenya is tribalism graft, no week passes without news about a scandal..we started with ghost schools, e-Citizen, Pay outs to ghost hospitals and now schools and universities are struggling,” he said.
