Detectives are investigating the murder of a man whose body was found on the roadside in Naivasha Town, Nakuru County.
The victim was identified as Joseph Ajon, 35 and a freelance journalist based in Nairobi, police said. The motive of the murder was not immediately established.
His car, a Volkswagen Tiguan, grey in color was found abandoned a few meters away from where his body lay, police said of the March 3, 2026 incident.
Police said they were called and informed of the incident long after it had happened. The body lay in an open field a few meters away from Naivasha-Maimahiu highway with multiple injuries in the ears, throat and thighs.
The body had a wrist watch and cap on it and a pool of blood a few meters away.
The body was moved to the mortuary while the car was towed to the local mortuary pending other investigations. Police believe the victim was driven to the scene and killed there.
A team revisited the scene and combed the car for possible clues on the killers.
Naivasha head of DCI Isaac Kiama said the body was identified using documents recovered in the clothes.
He termed the murder as macabre, saying they had established that the car at the scene was hired from Nairobi and they have reached out to the relatives.
“We understand that the victim is a freelance journalist involved in photography in Nairobi, and his throat and tongue had been cut out, and the body has been taken to the local mortuary, and investigations have started,” he said.
Kiama revealed that they were following some leads after collecting various items from the car and the scene.
No arrest has been made so far.
