A 13-year-old boy drowned while fetching water from the Athi River in Mbooni East Sub-County, Makueni County.

The victim is reported to have drowned at about 6 p.m. on Saturday at Syotuvali Village in Kathulumbi Location.

Police officers visited the scene and established that the boy had drowned while fetching water from the river.

With the assistance of local residents, the body was retrieved from the water before the scene was processed and documented.

Police classified the incident as a drowning and urged residents, particularly children, to exercise caution when fetching water from rivers, especially during periods of strong currents.

And police in Meru County have launched investigations into the death of a 24-year-old man who was found unresponsive in his house with a head injury.

The deceased, John Kithure, was discovered on Friday evening in Mutuati, Meru County, after his father went to check on him.

The body was moved to Nyambene Sub-County Morgue, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.

Police said investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Meanwhile, a 61-year-old man was found dead inside his house in Muruthi Village, Kagaa Location, Lari Sub-county, Kiambu County, in an incident that is under police investigation.

The deceased, identified as John Karanu Ikundi, was discovered lying lifeless on his bed on Sunday morning after relatives became concerned when he failed to respond to repeated knocks on his door.

According to police, the alarm was raised at about 7.00 a.m. when a 13-year-old boy, who had been sent by a relative to call the deceased, was unable to get any response. The deceased’s brother then went to the house and knocked several times without success before summoning other family members.

The relatives forced open the door and found Ikundi lying motionless on his bed before reporting the incident to Kagaa Police Post.

Police officers visited the scene and established that the body was lying on the bed with no visible physical injuries.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Ikundi was last seen alive on the evening of Friday, July 24, at Kagaa Market and had not been seen since.

The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to Mukoe Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the cause of death.

Police said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
