Students and teachers from Misikhu Boys High School were on Thursday left stranded after a businessman came to reclaim their school bus over unpaid dues.

The 58 students who were in the company of four teachers were left stranded in the Lakeside after their bus was impounded by Mr Nilesh Patel.

The students were on a geography study tour in Kisumu when Mr Patel seized the bus claiming that the school owed him Ksh1.6 million.

It is reported that the school bus driver was made to leave the learners at Impala Park and drove to Nilam Garage where the businessman impounded the bus.

The students were later rescued by Kisumu Boys High School who intervened, offering a bus to take them back to their institution.

Speaking to the Nation, Misikhu Friends Boys High School principal Maurice Otunga noted: “The students came back on Thursday at about 4pm in Kisumu Boys High School bus. This matter is before court so I cannot comment further on it.”

Despite leaving the students stranded, Mr Patel affirmed that he will retain the bus until when the school will clear the dues.

Nyanza Regional Education Director Richard Chepkawai said he was not aware that the students were stranded in Kisumu as he was away in Kisii County on official duty.
