A Traffic police officer was caught in the act of taking a bribe after he arrested a motorist along Lunga Lunga road.
The officer is said to have impounded the motorist’s car claiming that it was unroadworthy. The unidentified officer asked the motorist to drive to Industrial Area Police Station but on the way took a detour to a hotel.
It is while there that the corrupt traffic officer asked for a Sh20,000 bribe. But the complainant did not have that amount of money on him. In fact he says, he only had with him Sh300 and his laptop.
The man in blue then seized the laptop as he waited for the money.
The man withdrew Sh3,000 from an M-Pesa agent close to the cafe where the officer was taking his lunch.
He hands the cash to the officer who then places it in his left pocket and hands the laptop back to the owner.

The officer is the heard asking the motorist to give him some more money and make it at least Sh10,000.
The motorist wants Interior Security Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to take action against traffic officers who fleece motorists on a daily basis.
On June 22, three traffic police were arrested by EACC sleuths as they took bribes from motorists along Nairobi-Nakuru highway.
“The fleeing police officers were arrested a few meters from the scene and bundled into the waiting EACC vehicle,” a witness told reporters.
“They were caught redhanded and several Sh100 and Sh50 found in their pockets.”
EACC spokesperson Yassin Amaro has in the past said that the commission will continue in the fight against corruption in the police force.
