A couple was shot and seriously wounded in a robbery incident in Macalder, Migori County.

The couple runs an Mpesa shop in the area, police and locals said.

The victims had on Monday night closed their business in the area and were headed home near there when they were confronted by a gang.

The gang grabbed unknown amount of money from the two and escaped on foot.

The man was shot in the left shoulder while the woman was hit in the right shoulder and at close range, police said.

Police responded to the scene but no arrest was made as the gang had escaped.

Police said the victims were rushed and admitted to a local hospital in a stable condition.

The area has been experiencing violent crimes amid calls for action to tame the same.

This follows a series of attacks by gunmen targeting money from gold dealers and other business persons in the area.

Police said they were pursuing the gang.

In Esikulu, Busia County, a boda boda operator was stabbed and seriously wounded in a robbery incident. The rider was robbed of his motorcycle in the attack.

The rider was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition. The suspects escaped the scene in the February 3 incident. Such attacks have been on the rise amid efforts to address the trend. The thieves sell the motorcycles elsewhere.

Police say they are investigating the reported incidents.

And police are investigating an incident where a man was beaten up at his work place in Gatundu, Kiambu County.

The victim is admitted in hospital in critical condition after the attack, police said.

Whereas his workmates claimed he had an accident at the workplace, police said preliminary findings show he was beaten up.

Police said they are waiting for him to recover to record his statement for further investigations into attempted murder.

He has been in the ICU at Kijabe Hospital since January 23, police said.
