Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri will not resign despite pressure from social media users, the media and “politically frustrated people.”
“To my haters, I have listened to you carefully, even on social media. Some of you are politically frustrated. You look for anything to make yourself relevant. I assure that when the right time and moment comes I will deal with you. I rest my case,” the CS said.
The CS has been under immense pressure to quit his job after the President went in on him twice in public. President Uhuru Kenyatta has expressed his disappointment in the ministry for paying cartels instead of the genuine farmers.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, Kiunjuri noted that the ministry has only received Sh2.4 billion since he took office in February 2018. He also noted that maize farmers have so far received Sh9.4 billion.
“I joined the ministry in February,2018. I was made to believe that due process was followed in paying maize farmers in October 2017,” Kiunjuri noted.
The former Devolution CS also said 152 persons are under investigation and two of the said persons; Anthony Kipngetich and Isaiah Kipkemei were paid during his time in office. Kipngetich and Kipkemei received Sh8.2 million and Sh5.7 million respectively.
The former legislator also noted that he raised a red flag in the manner in which the funds were disbursed. He said that he wrote to the EACC and the DCI and is still awaiting action.

He also said that 1198 farmers have so far been paid and another 900 farmers have been vetted.
“By close of business today, we shall have paid them,” the CS has maintained.
