The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) wants the government to pull the plug on deal with Cuba.

This is following the death of a Kenyan medic, Dr Ali Juma who was found dead in his hostel in Havana.

According to the KMPDU secretary general, Ouma Oluga, the programme that was going to see the government cough up Sh215 million “has proven not beneficial” to Kenyan doctors.

Dr Oluga also mentioned that the government has failed to “secure proper housing, pay promised allowances and allow the doctors to reconnect with their families.”

This he says has left the doctors vulnerable, frustrated and in deplorable conditions.

The union also recommended that the sponsorship be provided though the five local Kenyan universities offering family medicine.

Kenya was supposed to pay the doctors a Sh36,000 stipend but has failed to make good its word.

The deceased is Likoni MP Mishi Mboko’s brother who was studying family medicine.

It has been reported that Dr Ali could have taken his own life.
