A driver with a car on transit to Uganda was shot and wounded in a robbery of the vehicle at the Gitaru interchange, Kiambu County.

The driver told police another car bumped into his Subaru Forester SG5 that he had picked from Mombasa Port for delivery to Kampala on Wednesday April 15 evening when the drama broke out.

What had started as a minor accident turned out to be a dramatic robbery and shooting, police said.

When the driver stopped to establish the damage caused on the car with no number plates then, two male individuals who had alighted from the other vehicle aggressively forced him back into his vehicle threatening him with harm after brandishing a pistol.

He said the car that scratched him had stopped a few meters ahead as usual.

He tried to resist and was shot in the right leg above the knee to subdue him.

The attackers took charge of his car and drove towards Ndenderu.

They abandoned him at Mabrouke Tea plantation along Nazareth Hospital Road.

A bodaboda operator found him and ferried to Tigoni Level IV Hospital for medical attention.

Police were called to the hospital where they confirmed the incident.

The police said the car was driven to an unknown location where the tracking device on it was disabled.

The vehicle was fitted with local number plates and driven away.

Police said the victim was attended to and the bullet was recovered and kept as an exhibit.

The hunt for the gunmen continued on Thursday.

Meanwhile, a police officer shot and wounded himself in an accidental discharge in Kibii, Juja, Kiambu County.

The officer is said to have slid and fell in a muddy area as he was confronted by a rowdy mob that was against his being there.

Police said the victim was in the company of a colleague and had visited the place to arrest a wanted drug trafficker when a mob confronted them.

It was as he reached out his pistol that he slid and fell forcing the weapon to discharge one bullet that hit him in the left limb.

He was taken to hospital in a stable condition as the wanted suspect escaped.
