Former Sports CS Rashid Echesa was hired for the same reason he was fired, Deputy President William Ruto has said.
Speaking to Hussein Mohammed on Citizen TV, the DP noted that the president reserves the right to hire and fire as he so pleases without explanation.
Echesa has been seeking to find out why President Uhuru Kenyatta relieved him of his duties without warning.
Ruto also noted that he is not against the fight against corruption but it’s politicization.
“Has DCI told you that William Ruto has called him? Or that I interfered with investigations?… I have not said investigations should stop. What I have said is that people should not use the investigations to run a political narrative against Jubilee,” he said.
Asked about whether he is in support of the “handshake”, the self proclaimed hustler said he was in fact brought up to speed by Kenyatta on his intentions to engage opposition leader Raila Odinga.
He also mentioned that the former prime minister had prior to the March 2018 handshake tried to engage him on four separate occasions.
“Before Raila Odinga engaged the President on the ‘handshake’, he engaged me, 4 times, but I declined. All engagements within Jubilee have to start with the President,” he continued.
Ruto who is keen on taking over from Kenyatta told Citizen that the Jubilee party is solid, dispelling rumours of rifts within the ruling party.
Asked if he and Odinga can patch things up, the Jubilee deputy party leader stated that “nothing is irreconcilable.”
On where he gets his money, Ruto said he can account for every cent that is in his name.
He also denied owning the Six Eighty hotel, Boulevard hotel. These rumours he said are fake news.
