KCPE and KCSE managers and invigilators were a surprised lot after the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) issued them with badges written in a foreign language.

The officials, Kahawa Tungu understands were handed their identity badges written in Chinese.

Speaking to Kahawa Tungu, the invigilators together with the centre managers expressed their disgust at the stunt.

Only the other day did a Chinese billboard spotted along Mombasa Road cause uproar among Kenyans. The signage was vandalised after its image made it online.

“The official languages in Kenya are English and Kiswahili! Period! And we have 42 other local languages. Foreign language poster Directed solely at foreigners to the exclusion of locals??!! Seriously??!!! #PullItDown and all others like it anywhere in public spaces,”Renee Ngamau, a radio show host posted on her Twitter page.

“A billboard is a public announcement aimed at the majority of the general population in a given area. Thus, you will find HIV billboards in local languages in the places the specific language speakers are the majority. This billboard fails in its basic functionality. #PullItDown,” she continued.

Needless to say, the signage was later erected in Imara Daima but this time complete with an English translation.
