    Foreign missionary killed in suspected attack at Kisumu rental house

    Police in Kisumu County have launched investigations into the murder of a foreign missionary who was attacked at his rented house in the Kasule area of Kisumu East Sub-county.

    The victim, identified as Indangamuntu Irakiza Patrick, a Rwandan was attacked by unknown persons at his residence on Monday, police said. He worked at Eagle River Ministries.

    Preliminary information from tenants indicated that the deceased had earlier been seen in the company of an unidentified adult woman before retiring to his rental house.

    Neighbours reported that at around 4:00 a.m., they heard screams coming from his house. When they rushed to check, they found him lying outside his door bleeding profusely with a deep cut on the forehead, while the house door was wide open.

    Police said there were no signs of a struggle inside the house, but two electronic devices belonging to the victim were missing.

    The stolen items were identified as an iPhone and an iPad, while another phone, an Itel A04, was left behind in the house. No household items were reported stolen.

    Neighbours rushed the injured missionary to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH), where he succumbed to his injuries at around 7:00 a.m. while on life support.

    Police processed and documented the scene, and the body was moved to the hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

    Detectives have launched investigations to identify the attackers and establish the circumstances surrounding the killing.

    In Tarasaa, Tana River County, one Maulid Kazungum 28 was fatally attacked by unknown assailants in his house.

    Police said the motive of the attack was not immediately known and the body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.

    And police in Kakamega County have launched investigations into a suspected murder after a 54-year-old woman died following an alleged assault by her husband in Kabras East Sub-county.

    The woman identified as Leonida Sitawa Kakai, was allegedly beaten by her husband, before she sought refuge at a neighbour’s house for the night.

    Police said that the following morning, while returning home accompanied by her granddaughter, she suddenly collapsed along the way and was rushed to Chomoi Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

    The body has since been moved to the Chomoi Hospital mortuary where it is awaiting a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

    Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
