Gareth James Delany is an Irish international cricketer who has established himself as a valuable all-rounder for the national team.
Born on 28 April 1997 in Dublin, Ireland, the 29-year-old bats right-handed and bowls right-arm leg-break and googly.
He has represented Ireland in both One Day Internationals and Twenty20 Internationals, earning a reputation as a fearless, six-hitting batsman with useful leg-spin bowling abilities.
Siblings
Gareth’s older sister, Laura Katherine Delany, is a professional cricketer and captain of the Irish national women’s cricket team.
Laura has been a prominent figure in Irish women’s cricket, and in July 2021, she broke the captaincy record for Irish women when she led the senior team for the 63rd time in international cricket.
The Delany family’s cricketing connections extend further, as Gareth’s cousin David Delany is also a cricketer who has represented Ireland.
Career
Delany made his Twenty20 debut for Leinster Lightning in the 2017 Inter-Provincial Trophy on 26 May 2017.
He followed this with his first-class debut for the same team in the 2017 Inter-Provincial Championship on 5 June 2017.
He made his List A debut on 10 September 2017.
In July 2019, he was selected to play for the Dublin Chiefs in the inaugural edition of the Euro T20 Slam, though the tournament was ultimately cancelled the following month.

His international career took off in 2019 when he was named in Ireland’s squad for their series against Zimbabwe.
He made his T20I debut for Ireland against Zimbabwe on 12 July 2019.
In September 2019, he was part of Ireland’s squad for the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier tournament in the United Arab Emirates.
His ODI debut followed on 7 January 2020 against the West Indies.
In January 2020, Delany was one of nineteen players to be awarded a central contract from Cricket Ireland, marking the first year in which all contracts were awarded on a full-time basis.
The same year, he gained valuable experience playing county cricket for Leicestershire in the Vitality Blast, becoming one of the first official Irish overseas players in the competition.
He was subsequently named in Ireland’s squads for the 2021 and 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cups.
Domestically, Delany has played for Leinster Lightning, Leicestershire, and Munster Reds.
By 2026, he was representing North West Warriors.

His domestic performances have been equally impressive, earning him match awards in the Inter-Provincial Trophy and the Vitality Blast during his time with Leicestershire.
In 2026, he added another international match award to his collection for his performance against the United Arab Emirates.
