    Towers Ghana

Ghana is worried today as some villagers have threatened to destroy telephone masts which they claim are powered by noisy generators disrupting their sleep. Now the government in Ghana has deployed police around the some areas to ward off such attacks.

The villagers claim that the masts owned by Vodafone, Tigo, Airtel, and Glo consume almost all the power from the national grid when it is available and are run by noisy generators whenever the grid power goes off.

Abdul Karim, a resident of Kukuo in Tamale region said, “Instead of the telco operators going through the proper procedures at the Volta River Authority, they have resorted to using generators which makes a lot of noise thereby affecting our sleep at night.”

“Our problem is that, since we got connected to the national grid, we have been experiencing low currents. So, three days ago, we contacted the Volta River Authority (VRA) about the matter and they disconnected the mast,” another angry angry resident told Ghana’s Citi News.

“But instead of the Telco operators going through the proper procedures at the VRA, they have resorted to using generators which makes a lot of noise thereby affecting our sleep at night,” he added.

One of the residents told Citi News that instead of using a 15 by 4 to connect the mast to the transformer, the operators use a 34 by 4 line.
