If your Capitec card is lost, stolen, damaged, or you suspect fraudulent activity, blocking it immediately can help protect your money from unauthorized transactions. Capitec allows you to stop or temporarily freeze your card using its mobile app without visiting a branch. Learning how to block a Capitec card online can help you respond quickly and keep your account secure.

      • Confirm the Request
      • Order a Replacement Card if Necessary

Sign In to the Capitec App

Open the Capitec banking app on your smartphone and log in using your secure credentials.

Ensure you are using the latest version of the app and have a stable internet connection.

    • Open the Capitec app
    • Sign in securely
    • Verify your identity if prompted
    1. Select Your Card

Tap Cards from the app menu and choose the debit, credit, or virtual card you want to manage.

The app allows you to view and control each eligible card linked to your account.

    • Open the Cards section
    • Select the affected card
    • Review the available card options
    1. Stop or Freeze the Card

If your card is lost or stolen, choose Stop card and select the appropriate reason. This permanently blocks the card, and you will need a replacement.

If you have only misplaced your card and expect to find it, you can choose Freeze card, which temporarily blocks all card-based transactions until you unfreeze it.

    • Select Stop card for lost or stolen cards
    • Select Freeze card for a temporarily misplaced card
    • Confirm your choice
    1. Confirm the Request

Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process.

Once confirmed, you will receive an in-app notification or SMS confirming that the card has been stopped or frozen.

    • Review your selection carefully
    • Confirm the request
    • Check for the confirmation notification
    1. Order a Replacement Card if Necessary

If you permanently stopped your card, arrange to replace it through the Capitec app or by visiting a Capitec branch.

Also monitor your account for any suspicious transactions and report unauthorized activity to Capitec immediately.

    • Request a replacement card if required
    • Monitor your account regularly
    • Report suspicious transactions without delay
