Jubilee picks ex-MP’s daughter weeks after UDA endorsed brother for Isiolo South seat

Jubilee Party endorsed Bina Tubi, daughter of the late Isiolo South MP Mohamed Tubi, as its candidate for the upcoming by-election, just weeks after the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) picked her brother, Tubi Mohamed Tubi, in what is widely seen as a political game of checkmate.

This is likely to spark a showdown in the coming polls.

Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni issued Bina Tubi with the nomination certificate, saying she was best suited for the candidacy and that she carries forward a proud political legacy.

Kioni said Bina’s late father was a loyal member of the Jubilee Party who served both the party and the Isiolo South constituents with commitment and dignity. “Jubilee honours his contribution and remains deeply grateful for the trust and partnership we have shared with the people of Isiolo South over the years,” Kioni stated.

Jubilee’s move is widely seen as a counter to UDA’s strategy as the party seeks to retain the seat.

The late Isiolo South MP died on November 12, 2025, while receiving treatment at the Nairobi Hospital. The lawmaker was serving his first term in Parliament and sat in several Committees such as the Departmental Committee on Environment, Forestry and Mining, and the Public Petitions Committee.

The Jubilee SG noted that the party seeks to extend its relationship with the Isiolo South residents by securing victory in the by-election slated for February 26, 2026.

“Our relationship with Isiolo South is rooted in mutual respect, development-focused leadership, and inclusive politics. As a party, Jubilee remains committed to safeguarding that legacy while offering renewed, people-centred leadership that speaks to the present and the future,” he noted.

“As the by-election approaches, Jubilee is confident that the people of Isiolo South will once again choose principled leadership, unity, and integrity.”

The nomination comes two weeks after Bina’s brother was handed the nomination certificate by UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan.

There will be other by elections in the mini polls ahead.
