Kenyan team to the 2018 African Senior Athletics Championship in Asaba, Nigeria is threatening to head back to Nairobi after getting stranded in Lagos.

The team of athletes and officials spent the night at Lagos International on Monday after failing to connect a flight to host city Asaba from Lagos.

Pictures of the Kenyan world beaters spending the night in the cold caused an outrage on social media on Tuesday with many condemning the host country for lack of preparedness to stage a meet of such magnitude.

With just a day to the competition only 22 athletes had made it Asaba with the bulk of them, including athletes, who are scheduled to race in the 10000m men, 800m men and 400m men on Tuesday still stranded at the airport’s domestic lounge.

According to reports, airport in Asaba is unlit and so no flights can land at night.

Up-to 200 athletes from over 12 countries have been caught up in the embarrassing situation.
