Kiambu Governor Waititu who has been vocal against the demolition of buildings was found to be an owner of an illegally constructed building in Nairobi CBD. The building hosts Delta hotel and the Fontaine sports bar and grill.
His wife and 14 others were arrested at the premises and taken to the county offices at City Hall. An audio of the governor begging for the release of his wife leaked to the public.
According to the county officials the wife was arrested at the venue and charged with occupying a building without an occupation certificate and contravening the physical planning act.

A developer who was also arrested was charged with erecting a building without the county’s approval. He was released on a cash bail of Sh. 100000.
The governor admitted that the building was his and that he had bought it for Sh.250 million. It is alleged that he purchased it from a bank and offered Sh.20million more than the asking price.
