lusakaKen Lusaka, Senate Speaker has said he will not apologize for working with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government.

The Speaker has said he is not betraying his people for his political alignment but only supporting Kenyatta’s development record.

The former Bungoma governor has been labelled a traitor by fellow Luhya leaders; Moses Wetangula and Musalia Mudavadi.

Lusaka lost his governor seat in the August 8 election because he ‘betrayed the opposition.’ The President’s approval ratings in the area did however improve.

Speaking to the Star, the former county boss has maintained that he will not apologize for leaving the opposition as his ties with the government have brought development to his people.

“My relationship with Uhuru has seen Bungoma enjoy tremendous benefits. When they were working on the other side it was okay but now because it is Lusaka, they call me a traitor.”

He also warned the old guards to get ready for a revolution as a new wave of young leadership was going to take over.

“Whether you like it or not, new people will come on board and if you do not embrace this, you will have it rough adjusting to the new wave.”

The Speaker has dismissed claims of a strained relationship with Wetangula who said he will not be addressing him (Lusaka) as ‘Mr Speaker Sir.’

“I am now the speaker and he has to accept that. He is the minority leader…we must thus forget our differences and execute our mandate. I will not discriminate him but he must also allow me to carry out my duties as per the law and standing orders of the House.”
