Police in Mathioya Sub-County, Murang’a County, launched investigations into the suspected murder of a 76-year-old man whose body was found in a farm near his home.

The body was discovered lying in a farm at Kangui village in Kambara Sub-location.

Police visited the scene and identified the deceased as Leonard Kimani Kamiri, who lived alone.

Police said the body was discovered a few metres from his house by his son, Julius Maina, who had visited his father’s homestead after attending a neighbour’s burial ceremony.

Investigators noted that the deceased had visible injuries on the back of the body, head and left leg, as well as a broken right hand near the shoulder, raising suspicion of a violent attack.

The scene was processed and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing.

And police in Mukurweini, Nyeri County, have intensified investigations into the sudden death of a man whose body was found outside a bar at Kamung’ere Shopping Centre.

According to the police, the deceased, identified as Stanley Macharia Kimari from Kinuri village, was discovered dead early Wednesday morning.

A divisional security team led by the Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) and the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) conducted a fact-finding mission at the shopping centre and reviewed CCTV footage from several premises.

Investigators established that Kimari only frequented the shopping centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays when delivering coffee to Mweru Factory.

Police officers also found that he did not patronize a single bar consistently but often moved between different drinking spots whenever he visited the area.

Police said CCTV footage showed him leaving Dreamland Bar and Restaurant on Tuesday evening after taking ugali and soup before proceeding to Stop Over Hotel at around 4.45pm, where he ordered Vienna Ice beer manufactured by Keroche Industries.

Investigators clarified that Stop Over Hotel does not stock or sell Diamond Ice liquor or any alcoholic products from Patiala Distillers, amid ongoing scrutiny surrounding alcoholic drinks consumed by the deceased.

According to the footage reviewed, the hotel closed at about 10.45pm, but Kimari was not among the three customers captured leaving through the main entrance.

Investigators believe he may have exited through a side door not fully covered by the CCTV system.

The footage later captured members of the public noticing his body at around 7am on Wednesday.

Following the investigations, the divisional security team ordered the temporary closure of Stop Over Hotel pending completion of investigations.

Police are also expected to review CCTV footage from Dreamland Bar, located opposite the hotel, on Thursday.

Police further inspected bars operating within the shopping centre and reported that no contraband alcohol brands were recovered. However, one bar owner was arrested for allegedly selling alcohol from unlicensed premises.
