A 35-year-old man was killed and another seriously injured after an alleged assault linked to accusations of goat theft in Murang’a County.

According to police, the incident occurred on Thursday May 8 in Thangathi village.

Police officers visited the scene and found the body of John Kamau Maina lying along a road near Sport Pesa Arena.

Police said the deceased had deep cut wounds on the head and burn injuries on the right hand.

Investigators also found a survivor of the attack inside a maize plantation about 200 meters from the scene. He had multiple injuries on the head and legs, as well as burn wounds below the right armpit.

According to the survivor’s account to police, the two had been drinking at a bar in Thangathi area at about 4am when they were confronted by three men known to him.

The suspects allegedly accused them of stealing a goat before forcing them onto a nearby road where they attacked them using pangas and attempted to set them on fire.

The survivor told investigators he was later released by the attackers despite sustaining serious injuries, while the suspects remained behind with the deceased.

Police officers processed the area before the body was moved to Murang’a Level 5 Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem examination.

The injured survivor was admitted to the same hospital for treatment as police pursue the suspects behind the attack.

Meanwhile, police in Nyakach Sub-county, Kisumu County, are investigating the murder of a 26-year-old man whose body was discovered beside a footpath near St. Martin Depores Special School.

According to police, members of the public alerted authorities after spotting the body.

Police officers visited the scene and confirmed the incident and recovered a national identity card from the deceased’s pocket identifying him as Martin Ochieng, aged 26.

Police said the deceased had multiple visible injuries on the head, indicating he may have been fatally assaulted.

The scene was processed and documented by DCI officers as investigations into the murder continue.

The body was moved to Bethlehem Funeral Home awaiting postmortem examination.

Murder incidents have been on the rise amid efforts to solve them.
