Detectives are investigating an incident where a man was robbed of Sh240,000 after he had withdrawn the same from a bank in Mumias, Kakamega County.

It is suspected the attackers had information on the man’s movements.

The victim told police he had been to KCB Mumias Branch where he withdrew the cash for personal use on March 17.

He said after the withdrawal, he securely placed the cash in his bag oblivious of the dangers lying ahead of him.

Later, he left Mumias for Khwisero on his motorcycle.

Upon reaching the Msitoi area along Ekero-Ebuyangu Road, he was stopped by four young men on another motorcycle.

He said all were armed with pistols. They then robbed him of the bag containing the cash and fled toward Ekero.

He had then been pushed to the ground and at gunpoint.

A team of police visited the scene and confirmed the robbery. The police said they are investigating the saga.

It is believed the gang had prior information on the transactions. It is likely they trailed him from the bank or were tipped off of the same.

Police later visited the bank and talked to staff who served the victim as part of the probe.

Such incidents have been on the increase in the area and other urban areas.

Police say past investigations show the attackers had prior information on the transactions before they struck.

This has led to the solving of some of the incidents while others remain unsolved.

Rogue bank staff at times sell out their customers to such thugs for a fee.

Police say they are working out to solve the menace through various measures. The police also want those transacting large sums of money to seek their help in escorting the same.
