nakumattNakuru Mattresses (Nakumatt) Lifestyle was on Friday evicted from the Hazina Trade Centre, after defaulting on rent for the past four months.

National Social Security Fund (NSSF) officials shut down the premises and clamped the retailer’s vehicles after receiving a court order to pursue the retailer.

The retailer has been the anchor tenant but has been struggling and is said to have accumulated Sh40 billion in debt.

Thika Road Mall (TRM) evicted the retailer and attached its goods and equipment to recover Sh51 million in rent arrears.

On Thursday, the retailer’s lawyers pulled out from the numerous cases filed against them because they have (Nakumatt) been ignoring the firm’s legal advise.

Speaking on behalf of Iseme, Kamau & Maema Advocates, lawyer Diana Ogulla told the court that they and Nakumatt differed on ways to handle the cases.

The case will be heard on January 11, next year.
