Confirming his release, Nakuru Central Police Station OCPD Elena Kabukuru said the MP could not get any funds at the time he was set free, prompting his release on a free police bond.

Gikaria was arrested alongside ten other suspects as they oversaw the construction of stalls on the said land at Pipeline along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway.
Moments before his arrest, Gikaria reportedly arrived at the construction area accompanied by a group of youths to allegedly supervise construction of stalls on the land in question.
This led to a confrontation between him and former Mayor Surraw which attracted the attention of area residents who were split on who actually owns the land.

The standoff paralysed transportation on the highway for the better part of the morning before the matter got the attention of the police.
Reports indicate that Nakuru East MCA James Humphrey Mwaniki is also being sought over alleged links to the land scandal.
This is not the first time Gikaria is being arrested over land fraud.
In January this year, Gikaria was arrested and charged with eight counts of land fraud.
Also, in 2016, Gikaria was charged at a Nakuru Court with malicious damage to private property and stealing.
