A police officer has been arrested on Friday in connection with the Ksh14.5 million Barclays Bank heist.
According to a report seen by Kahawa Tungu, the police officer, George Gachungui Njoroge, was
arrested by ECCU officer from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters.
Officer Njoroge, who is attached to operations at Isiolo area, was arrested for the offence of conspiracy
to commit a felony which is contrary to section 393 of the penal code.
He is also accused of conspiring with others to steal from Barclays Bank ATM between 15 and 20 of April, 2019.
The officer’s arrest follows the arrest of a taxi driver suspected to have been used during the Easter weekend robbery.
Prior reports by the DCI noted that the crime which took place on was an inside job.

DCI Director George Kinoti divulged that the robbers might have jack-potted the ATMs to spit the money.
According to experts, the technique used by the criminals is described as electronic interference of an ATM machine, where hackers can command it to release all its content.
In the CCTV footage recovered from neighboring buildings, investigators believe the criminals had prior knowledge of the ATM security codes.
