Safaricom Limited has been forced to refund subscribers their money after a failed KCPE results delivery following a public outcry.

In a Statement, the Communications firm said it has launched investigations into the claims that money was being deducted multiple times while some despite sending a billed SMS did not receive a reply.

Safaricom explained that the 22252 short code is run by a third party named  Challa Communications limited and who are licensed by CAK and are contracted by Kenya Examinations Board to provide the service.

Those affected are said to be 424,011 people who were billed Sh25 to check KCPE results with some multiple times yet without feedback.

Company allegedly earned Sh10million on that day.

According to Safaricom Director of Strategy Joe Ogutu, the firm was on Wednesday informed by Challa of experiencing Technical hitches that meant customers querying results could not get them promptly or at all.

“We have instructed Challa to refund all affected customers starting this afternoon with keenness on those who were billed more than once and also those billed but did not receive results,” the Statement read.

Safaricom expressed regret at inconvenience caused and said they will extend support to Challa to curb any more of such future occurrences.
