A security guard was found murdered at a business premises in Kakamega town early Saturday morning in what police suspect was an attempted robbery.
The deceased, identified as Boniface Kweyu, 37, was an employee of Demo Security Company and was on night duty alone at the parking yard of Mahadev Drappers Limited.
According to police, the incident was discovered at about 9am after a person arrived at the premises and found the guard dead.
Police officers visited the scene.
They found Kweyu’s body lying in a prone position with several deep cuts, which investigators suspect were inflicted using a sharp object.
The guard’s hands and legs had reportedly been tied with a rope.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspected attackers gained entry into the compound after cutting metal bars along the perimeter fence.
Once inside, the suspects allegedly attempted to drill a hole through a wall of Mahadev Drappers Limited and also broke the door of a store within the compound.
However, they reportedly failed to gain access to the store.
Crime Scene Investigation officers processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to Kakamega County Referral Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
Police have launched investigations to identify and arrest those responsible for the killing and attempted break-in.
Meanwhile, police are investigating an incident where a 36-year-old man was found dead inside his rented house in Molo, Nakuru County, after he reportedly went missing for two days.
The deceased, identified as Gideon Wamute Wambugu, was found unresponsive inside his house in the Moto area on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
According to police, the man’s family raised the alarm after he had not been seen for two days. His rented house was found locked from inside.
Police officers visited the house and broke a window pane, through which they saw Wambugu lying unresponsive on a seat.
The officers subsequently gained entry into the house and confirmed that he was dead.
Preliminary investigations indicated that Wambugu may have died while asleep. Police also established that he had a reported history of epilepsy.
The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to Molo Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting an autopsy to establish the exact cause of death.
