Skylar Kierra Diggins-Smith, born on August 2, 1990, in South Bend, Indiana, is a standout figure in women’s basketball.

A dynamic point guard for the Seattle Storm in the WNBA, Skylar has built a reputation as one of the league’s premier talents since being drafted third overall by the Tulsa Shock in 2013.

Raised by her parents, Tige Diggins and Renee Scott, Skylar’s early exposure to sports came from a family that encouraged athleticism—her mother was a gymnast, and her father supported her boundless energy.

Now a veteran in her 12th WNBA season, she balances her professional career with motherhood, having welcomed two children with her husband, Daniel Smith, whom she married in 2017.

    Siblings

Skylar grew up as the eldest of five siblings in a tight-knit family that shaped her competitive edge.

Her siblings are Hanneaf Davis, Maurice Scott Jr., Tige Diggins Jr. and Destyn Diggins

While Skylar is popular, not much is known about her siblings, including their personal lives, as they live a private life.

    Career

At Washington High School in South Bend, Skylar led the Panthers to a 102–7 record, including a 2007 state championship, finishing with 2,790 points—the third-highest total in Indiana girls’ history.

Her dominance earned her the National Gatorade Player of the Year and Gatorade Female Athlete of the Year honors, cementing her as a top recruit.

At Notre Dame, Skylar became a legend with the Fighting Irish from 2009 to 2013.

She guided the team to three consecutive Final Fours and two NCAA championship game appearances, graduating as the program’s all-time leader in points (2,357), steals (381), and minutes played (4,770).

She was the first Notre Dame player—male or female—to tally 2,000 points, 500 rebounds, 500 assists, and 300 steals, earning two Nancy Lieberman Awards as the nation’s top point guard and three All-American nods.

Drafted third overall by the Tulsa Shock in 2013, Skylar’s WNBA career took off with a Rookie Team selection.

    Her breakout 2014 season saw her named Most Improved Player and a first-time All-Star, a feat she repeated six times (2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022).

She has earned four All-WNBA First Team honors (2014, 2017, 2021, 2022) and two Second Team nods (2018, 2020).

Despite a torn ACL in 2015, she rebounded to play for the Dallas Wings, Phoenix Mercury, and now the Seattle Storm, where she signed in 2024.

In 2021, she won Olympic gold with Team USA in Tokyo.

Off the court, Skylar’s influence extends to endorsements with Puma and Roc Nation Sports, and her advocacy against childhood obesity through camps like “Shoot 4 the Sky.”

With career averages of 14.5 points, 4.8 assists, and 1.5 steals per game, Skylar Diggins-Smith remains a force in basketball, driven by the family that shaped her from the start.
