Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was on another rescue mission in Nairobi’s Parklands area where two families risked losing their land to ‘cartels.’

The families of Mohan Singh Dhanjal and Satwant Singh Dhanjal contacted the Governor on Sunday saying that they have been living under constant threats lately from cartels who want to grab their land.

The two families tried reporting the same matter to the area chief who allegedly proved difficult and instead asked them to ‘deposit with him the original title deed by 10:00am today, allegedly over a debt against the title of Ksh.350,000.’

The families on Monday following Sonko’s advice reported to the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC), who provided officers to accompany them to meet the chief.

The chief is said to have demanded that the families give him and the area DO Ksh.30,000 for “protection.”

The chief was found with thousands of shillings in cash and was apprehended and is being held at the Kilimani police station.

The governor upon taking office vowed to bring to restore Nairobi’s lost glory.

”As I promised, the days of the cartels who have been tormenting and defrauding honest, hardworking Kenyans came to an end the day I assumed office,” Sonko said.
